The Environmental Field Technician role is ideal for individuals who enjoy hands-on work and are eager to grow their technical and communication skills in a supportive, fast-paced environment. The position involves working both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions, with occasional regional travel. Successful candidates will be detail-oriented, dependable, and motivated to develop strong mechanical aptitude, accurate field documentation skills, and effective communication while collaborating with clients and team members across all levels of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Sample groundwater, soil, surface water and air.
  • Assist with drilling operations and sampling.
  • Prepare equipment for sampling events.
  • Sample wells with pumps or bailers and prepare samples for shipping.
  • Perform repairs to well heads and equipment.
  • Perform remediation system O&M activities, including inspections, data recording, trouble-shooting, repairs, and equipment maintenance.
  • Walk a route in an indoor/outdoor industrial setting visually inspecting equipment.
  • Assist with site reconnaissance, public utility locate coordination and site assessment.
  • Compile and report data using Microsoft Word and Excel.

 

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; vocational training or coursework in construction, engineering, geology, environmental or a related field is a plus.

  • Strong commitment to safety and the ability to follow OSHA regulations, industry best practices, and company policies.
  • Prior field-based experience and/or certifications (e.g., HAZWOPER) are a bonus, but not required — we’ll help you get there!

  • Strong communication, documentation, and organizational skills.
  • Comfortable working independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Suite, including spreadsheets, data analysis and graphing.
  • Valid driver’s license, insurable driving record, and ability to pass pre-employment drug screen.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

  • Regularly exposed to outside weather conditions such as wet and/or humid environments, extreme cold and/or heat, dusty and noisy work environments
  • Field work on outside construction sites involving long-term standing and potentially repetitive motions
  • This role is combined with 90% field work, 10% office work
  • Ability to use your senses to see (including close, distant and peripheral vision, depth vision and ability to focus), smell, hear and touch (use your hands to reach, climb or balance, crouch, stoop, crawl, kneel and sit)
  • Use of respirator and/or other PPE
  • Ability to climb a ladder higher than 10 feet as needed
  • Ability to access and work in crawlspaces and attics as needed
  • Travel is expected, including potential overnights. Some weekend and overtime work and/or overnight work and travel may be required.
  • May be required to drive hundreds of miles per day
  • Ability to lift/move up to 50lbs.
